Dr. Novia specializes in breast surgery for augmentation, reduction and reconstructive purposes. His extensive knowledge in this area includes fat grafting for augmentation and reconstructive surgeries.
Breast Augmentation
Augmentation Mammoplasty increases the size of the breast using breast implants or transplanted fat. In order to get the best possible result, patients who are considering breast augmentation must be able to answer six questions:
- Which incision?
Infra-mammary – under the breast
Peri-areolar – around the nipple
Axillary – in the underarm
TUBA – in the navel - Which pocket?
Sub-glandular – below the breast tissue
Sub-muscular – under the chest muscle - Which implant?
Silicone gel
Saline – saltwater
Round or shaped - Which implant surface?
Smooth
Textured – rough - Which implant size?
This is often the most difficult decision the patient has to make - Which operation?
Augmentation with implants alone
“Natural” augmentation with fat
Augmentation with mastopexy (breast lift)
Dr. Novia will carefully examine you and assist you in this process. This process can require several visits in order to decide exactly which of the many different options will be the right choice for you.
Breast Reduction
Reduction Mammoplasty is possibly the best operation in plastic surgery. Reduction Mammoplasty is for women who are seeking to alleviate health issues, improve self-confidence, and reduce neck, shoulder and back pain caused by excessively large breasts. The surgery includes removing fat, glandular tissue and skin to lift and improve the shape of the breast. There are several different methods for breast reduction. Contact Dr. Novia for a consultation to see which method will be best for you.
This surgery is typically an outpatient procedure. After surgery you will wear a surgical bra to ensure proper healing. Bruising and swelling generally subside in the first few weeks after surgery. Scarring is to be expected with a breast reduction but will become lighter in six to 18 months. Scarring at the underside of the breast will not prevent you from wearing a bathing suit or lower cut neckline. The most common question Dr. Novia’s patients ask after breast reduction surgery is “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”
Breast Reconstruction
The goal of breast reconstruction is to restore the body image and preserve self esteem. Breast reconstruction is for women who have had a mastectomy or lumpectomy. Depending on individual health conditions, reconstruction can take place at the same time as a mastectomy (immediate reconstruction), or after the patient has healed from the mastectomy surgery (delayed reconstruction). Breast reconstruction usually requires multiple procedures. These procedures will be determined based on your needs and can include:
- Tissue Expander Placement
- Breast Implant(s)
- Flap Reconstruction
- Fat grafting
- Hyperbaric Oxygen
- Brava External Expansion System
- Surgery of the opposite breast for symmetry (lifting, augmenting, reducing)
- Nipple reconstruction
The breast reconstruction journey usually lasts over one year.
Dr. Novia will work with you and your team of doctors to select the best approach for your breast reconstruction. Recovery times vary with each procedure and will be explained with your individual care plan.
