Body contouring procedures sculpt areas of the body in which the reduction of fat has been immune to both diet and exercise. The most common body contouring procedures are either a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction. Dr. Novia’s cosmetic and plastic surgery background includes specialized training in all areas of body contouring including the latest advancements and laser applications. Those who have struggled to combat problem areas that are hereditary or residual side effects of weight gain are ideal candidates for liposuction and other body contouring procedures. Choosing a physician like Dr. Novia is assurance that you are being treated by a fully trained, qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who will guide you in selecting the right procedure.
Diet and Exercise before Liposuction or other Body Contouring Procedures
Surgery is not a replacement for weight loss. Dr. Novia will consult with you to select the most effective body contouring procedure for enhancing your natural shape and eliminating unwanted fat. If you are working toward a goal, Dr. Novia will offer counsel on methods for achieving your optimal weight.
Surgery, Anesthesia Options and Recovery
Liposuction is normally performed on an outpatient basis. There are many options for anesthesia with liposuction. Patients may be fully awake (local anesthesia), fully asleep (general anesthesia) or in between (twilight anesthesia). Many larger body contouring procedures require general anesthesia. You will discuss options for anesthesia directly with Dr. Novia and the anesthesia staff to ensure you are comfortable and pain-free during your procedure. Swelling and bruising are to be expected. You will wear a garment that places pressure on the treated area for support. Depending on the procedure, most patients return to work between 2 days and 2 weeks after surgery.
